life metaphor

Life is like an elevator. It has ups and downs, but no matter what we still have to get up and start again just like how the elevator goes from first floor to the top. However, sometimes the elevator would break down and would take a long time to get repaired but in the end, it still starts working again. We have to be strong and not give up, just like the elevator.

limerick poem

There was a man from Peru
who needed to go to the loo
and so he went
and pulled down his pants
and said "Oh I need to poo!"

poem on primary school days

With tears I stepped
in the school,
my one and only primary school.
I had few friends at first in that school,
my one and only primary school.

As weeks went by,
new friends soon came by.
I had lots of fun
and laughed and smiled until I had the runs.

However when the exams arrived
all the fun left.
The friendly and kind faces of the teachers
metamorphosed into serious and stern faces.

Oh how time flies
when your having happy times.
The final year exams soon
drew close and workload soon increased.

When the results came out,
there were tears of joy and sadness.
For me,
it was tears of joy.

How I missed my friends
the ones which I shared tears and joys with.
How I missed that school,
my one and only primary school.

sound poem

I heard the owls hooting in the dark.
I heard the sheep bleating beyond the hill.
I heard the wolves howling in the dark dark night.
I heard the sparrows chirping on the tree.
I heard the dogs growling at my neighbor.
I heard the horses neighing in the stable.
I heard the bulls bellowing on the field.
I heard the bees buzzing around their bee hive.
I heard the frogs croaking on a lily.
I heard the mice squeaking in their hole.
I heard the roosters crowing at dawn.
I heard the turkeys clucking at the farm.
I heard the pigeons homing around my house.
I heard the ducks quacking in the pond.
I heard the pigs oinking in the mud.
I heard the cats screeching at my dog.

Reflections

During this year in school during Language Arts lessons, the two things that I find most valuable were the lessons on summary writing and poetry.

Before my LA teacher taught us about summary writing, I did not know much about it. I always thought that it was just a few lines of words at the back of a book. Until my LA teacher taught about it, I started to have a better understanding of it. When my LA teacher first talked about summary writing, I did not really care about it as I thought that it would be easy to write a summary. However, when we started to do the exercises that my LA teacher gave us, my mind went blank. What is this thing about? Why must there be so many points? How to para-phrase this? These were the things that I thought during then.

I once had a few lessons on poetry in primary school, then I thought that it was very complex. When my LA teacher started teaching us poetry, I still thought that it was very complex. But as my LA lessons progressed, most of the things soon came together and I started to understand poetry more.

Snapshot land

1)wonderland
2)camera
3)FUN
4)snapshot
5)picture
6)scenery

Things that catch my attention= sepia on sandboys and sandgirls,

nobody in snapshot land grows old unless they want to,

some figurative languages from the poem

-and smile and smile and smile (alliteration)

group of words"dolphins and the buckets full of pebbles on the same sea-shore."

There is a pattern. This poem uses assonance. This poem is about snapshot land being like a dreamland, you could get whatever you wanted.

a)the poet
b)it is spoken to the public
c)sincere
d)encouraging
e)it is to show that snapshot land is a great place
f)they all are related to poetry

The author hopes to encourage readers to come to snapshot land.

lesson 1: figurative language

Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.
His workbook is wedged in the window,
His sweater's been thrown on the floor.
His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door.
His books are all jammed in the closet,
His vest has been left in the hall.
A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed,
And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
Donald or Robert or Willie or--
Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!

In this poem, the poet uses "Oh,dear,"(hyperbole) to show how surprised he is.
The poet uses the messy things in the room(symbolism) to show why should the owner of this room be ashamed of himself.

I like this poem as I find it quite amusing as the poet is actually writing about himself when he said that it was his own room. The poet says a lot of dirty and messy things in his room to show that his room is messy.

diary entry of Hari(When he is in Bombay)

Dear dairy,
Today when i reached finally reached Bombay, my jaw dropped when I saw the amount of traffic and what Bombay looked like. When we reached Kala Ghoda, we were addressed by a man called Sayyid Ali who informs us about the side effects of a factory coming to Rewas. I was surprised that the man was able to read my mind and know so much about the lives of people in Thul even thought he was a city-man. I was stunned that a coconut in Bombay could actually cost as much as 2 rupees where in Thul I could just climb up a coconut tree and get one. I was disappointed that the De Silvas had gone to Thul after all the trouble I had gone through to get here.Fortunately, the watchman of the building, Hira Lal took me to a man called Jagu who could provide me with a meal and shelter.

Newspaper article-Urbanisation arriving in Thul

Urbanisation is arriving in Thul, a small thriving fishing village in India. The government of India is planning to build a factory in Thul not knowing that the main source of income for the people there is fishing and agriculture.By building a factory in Thul, the people there will be greatly affected as the factory could release harmful wastes into the sea and affect the marine life. However, the young people in Thul are feeling excited about the factory being build in Thul as they might be able to get jobs with a higher pay by working in the factory. One youngster said," I'm very happy about the factory being built in Thul as it might provide me with a job so that I can provide for my family."

Lila's reaction to some instances in The Village by the sea

I have chosen this picture as it depicts where people are bending down at rocks.I think its most suitable as it shows the sincerity of the person.picture's URL:http://light.wittenberg.edu/blog/lesotho/files/2009/06/mos-rock-pile.jpg

I chose this picture as it best describes how Lila felt when the medicine man came to help her mother.picture's URL:http://rolfdane.com/images/relieved4.jpg

I chose this picture as I think that the woman in the picture has the same facial expression as what Lila would look like when pinto was poisoned.this picture's URL: http://images.google.com.sg/imglanding?q=terrified%20woman&imgurl=http://a.viary.com/images/tutorials/compositionalcropping/compositionalcropping4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://aviary.com/tutorial.aspx%3Ftutorial%3Dcompositional_cropping%26step%3D5&usg=__hErgCAdXICo9Crg3-JYZzlsuWx4=&h=454&w=645&sz=61&hl=en&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=7rlLfTYZRT_X4M:&tbnh=96&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dterrified%2Bwoman%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&sa=N&tbs=isch:1&start=4#tbnid=7rlLfTYZRT_X4M&start=8

ambient music for the first scene of "The village by the sea"

I chose this ambient music as I feel that this music is very relaxing and fits the background of the scene at the start of the story. It gives the feeling of someone walking along the beach and hearing the smooth waves clashing on the beach.

reason for the ending of "the lady or the tiger"

The princess could not bring herself to let her lover marry another person,so she showed the man the door which she knew had a tiger in it knowing that he would trust her. However after witnessing her lover's death, the princess became regretful as she had just killed her lover, and wanted join him.

The Lady,or the Tiger?

For a moment, everyone in the arena stopped breathing, with all eyes on the door which the man was opening. The whole arena was so quiet that even the sound of an ant crawling on the floor could be heard. When the door was opened, there came a sound of a lady's feet shuffling towards the man.Everyone cheered happily and some even hugged each other as they found out that the man's life was safe.Out of the blue,a ferocious tiger pounced out of the darkness onto the man.The audience was stunned by this sight, they all gave a sigh that such a young, handsome and innocent life was lost.Just then, tears came rolling down from the princess's face, she thought remorsefully upon seeing the corpse of her lover,"How could I do this!I just killed my lover!""Don't worry my love,I will join you soon!"

picking up litter at changi beach

Yesterday my classmates and I went to changi beach to pick up litter. The main purpose for this event was to keep the environment clean. As changi beach was very far away from school,I slept on the bus. When we reached there,I realized that changi beach was much cleaner than sembawang beach which we had gone to last Saturday.I teamed up with my prievous partner and started to pick up litter. After walking along the beach and picking up litter, our trashbag had only a few pieces of sweet wrappers, cigarettes buds and plastic bags.this showed that at least Singapore is making an effort to throw their rubbish into the dustbins.

cross country on wednesday

Yesterday I ran the cross country race which was organised by our school council. Our principal told us that the school was not able to hold this cross country race last year due to H1N1.I think that this was a privilege as the secondary 4 students last year were not able to experience this run.We were given number tags before the race. The secondary 1 went first so as to prevent overcrowding.I felt great during the run as the whole school was running with us.I ran as fast as I could but eventually became tired.Despite that,I still continued to jog to the finishing line.I think that this is an achievement as I have never completed a run of 3km before.

picking up rubbish at sembawang beach

Our teachers brought 1P4 and 1P3 to sembawang beach to pick up litter. At first,I thought that this would be an easy job but when we reached there,I couldn't believe my eyes! There was litter everywhere,on grasses,in drains,on the beach and there was even a car tire!To make the event more exciting, our seniors made us compete against the other class to see which class could pick up the most litter. We were asked by our form teachers to split into twos so that it would be easier.I teamed up with a friend and started to pick up litter. We went to the beach first to pick up litter. After scanning the whole beach,we our trash bag was already one quater full. Then we went to the drain to continue to pick up litter. The drain had the most litter in it,it was horrifying to see the number of rubbish people have littered.Even though we lost the competition,we still had fun!!

diary entry of mrs marloney(lamb to the slaughter)

Dear dairy,

When the police officers finally left my house today,I was relieved as they did not notice that the murderer of my husband was actually me!!How stupid can they be!
Well, I do NOT feel any guilt to what I did today as he asked for it!After all I have done for him,he actually wanted a divorce!!When he told me that he wanted a divorce,I was so shocked that I thought that I was in a dream. The most heartbreaking thing was that he dared me to stop him!So I swung a frozen lamb leg at him and he actually died!
